On Monday 11th September, we relaunched the Unloc Enterprise Academy short-course for the 17/18 academic year. This term we already have over 60 keen and enthusiastic students from Portsmouth College, ready to start their own business journey. At the Unloc Enterprise Academy we pride ourselves of offering a fun, interactive and engaging short-course for students.
Week 1: Creating an Environment Conductive for Learning
The first week kicked off by creating an environment for learning. Students were introduced to our version of the business model canvas and started thinking about what they were passionate about, along with creating new business ideas that they can take further. This session was great at bringing students together and taking education out of the classroom and into the real world.
Time spent building a climate for learning is time gained, not lost.
Week 2: The Paperclip Challenge
During the second week, we took the Enterprise Academy on an exciting trip outside the college to independent retailers. The students were given just a single paperclip per group, which they had to trade up towards something of more value. The students had an amazing time applying their negotiation and communication skills to this challenge. Some of the items that students managed to trade towards included a bouquet of sunflowers, a box full of toothpaste and even a bronze goblet!
The next 10 weeks will focus on everything that students need to know to be successful in starting their own business. We will focus on subjects like marketing, business vision and mission, networking and pitching. We are super excited to see the progress of the students throughout the next 12 weeks.
